ImageOn a conceptual level we seek to establish a new understanding of organization as an ethico-aesthetic practice. For us, organization is not a technical means to coordinate and manage actions. Rather, it is a continuous social process of giving form to relations to self and others – and reflecting on these forms. Organizing is an art rather than a science; it includes ethics as an immanent force.
Empirically, we explore modes of organizing work in cultural and creative fields – like theatre, music and architecture – and quest to understand how they shape and are shaped by the subjectivities of cultural workers.

We see our activity as researchers as a situated practice. Organizational and social inquiry is not simply describing worlds; it is at the same time an enactment of worlds. Exploring limitations and possibilities of work relations in the cultural field is an engagement in “world making” and “disclosing new worlds” rather than a neutral representation. Necessarily we are involved in “ontological politics” (Law/Urry 2004).

We understand our own work as an ethico-aesthetic practice guided by values of openness and respect for the other. Inspired by an attempt to think and organize differently, we want to contribute to the ongoing discussion on fundamental transformations in the world of work.
